More shots from the observation deck of the Peace Tower today. This view to the north looks out to downtown Gatineau across the Alexandria Bridge. Along the shore, the building with the green domes near the centre of the shot is home to the Museum of Civilization. I'll have to get over there sometime soon. Looming beyond the city are the Gatineau Hills.
The Library of Parliament was the only part of the original Centre Block to survive the 1916 fire. It's linked to the rest of the building, but was saved by a clerk who managed to close the heavy iron doors before the fire could spread inside.
A look to the northeast gives us a look at Nepean Point and the National Gallery. The iceberg, so to speak, continues to shelter the scaffolding while the glass replacement continues, but the glass tower is more exposed now than it was a few weeks ago when I last photographed it.
And this look east gives us a view of the Gallery, Notre Dame, Major's Hill Park, and the U.S. Embassy on the other side of the park. I have to get down into the park for a couple of shots before snow starts here.
We'll finish our circle with the East Block. Beyond it you can see the diagonal line of the Rideau Canal, and the Chateau Laurier and Government Conference Centre on the other side. More from other portions of the Peace Tower to come; there's a chamber lower in the Tower that I want to show you on Remembrance Day.
